Originally hailing from the U.K, Cathy Marston has a wicked sense of humour and a no-nonsense approach to wine.
After completing her degree in English at Cambridge University, she joined Adnams Wine Merchants as their marketing manager. Believing that you need to know a product in order to sell it, they put her through all the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) exams, culminating in a Level 4 Diploma.

She came to SA in 2001 and opened The Nose Restaurant & Wine Bar with her husband Kevin, selling it after seven successful years.

Cathy now concentrates on educating people about wine, with a little judging and writing on the side. She was the first Approved Programme Provider in Africa for the WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) and was named International Educator of the Year in 2014.

WSET is the only internationally recognized wine course available in SA, offering qualifications from a very basic introduction to wine Level 1 to the flagship, degree-standard Level 4 course.

Cathy continues studying herself and is about to leave for the UK to complete what will hopefully be her final exams for her Master of Wine (MW) qualification.
