DeMorgenzon
2020 was a tumultuous year for the world, for South Africa and for DeMorgenzon. Despite the difficult trading environment and all manner of COVID-19 restrictions, DeMorgenzon had a successful year, retained all of our loyal staff and kept the music playing.

After careful consideration, however, and with the full support of all at DeMorgenzon, Adam Mason has taken the decision to leave formal employment and start his own wine business. We are grateful for the energy and insight Adam has contributed and wish him well in his future endeavours. He will always be part of the DeMorgenzon family.

Whilst we are obviously sad that Adam is leaving us, we are delighted that Alastair Rimmer is joining us as CEO and Cellar Master, albeit after a slight delay as his tumble off his mountain bike resulted in a broken collarbone and some reconstructive surgery. He assures us that he has absolutely no problem tasting or drinking with his left arm.

Alastair says that he looks forward to having accountability for sustainable profitability and growth in a dynamic and progressive wine business.

After matriculating at St Johns College, he graduated from Stellenbosch University with a BSC Oenology and Viticulture. His experience reaches all corners of the fine wine producing countries of the world where he spent more than a decade before returning to South Africa. Alastair is a renowned winemaker with a highly regarded palate and led the team that propelled his previous winery into the top level of the South African industry, being recognized as the Platter Winery of the Year for 2021.

The Appelbaum family, Danie De Waal who runs the estate and produces outstanding grapes, Anthony Sanvido our brilliant upcoming winemaker, and all at DeMorgenzon would like you to join us in welcoming Alastair and Kirsty on board (We hope to schedule time with each of you in the very near future to meet Alastair, even if it’s ‘virtually.’)

Kind regards,
Wendy Appelbaum
