Painted Wolf Wines
Thank you so much to all of you who took up our special offer to stock up and now have Painted Wolf wines to enjoy in your den. As always, your support is appreciated.

So, we thought we would have a bit of fun and focus on the subject of denning down, inspired by this photo of the Borg family happily reunited for the lockdown in Paarl. Wherever you are in the world, if you do happen to have a bottle or two of Painted Wolf wine, or can be suitably creative, we invite you to enter our Denning Down photo competition. The most original photo will win six bottles of wine.

What does denning down mean in the world of the painted wolf? The den is where the alpha female gives birth to her litter of around 10 pups (although they can have up to 30), and so it is important that it is in a safe area with good cover and not too far from water. A den will usually be found in a hole in the ground abandoned by another animal such as an aardvark or warthog or in a rock crevice.

For the first month the mother will stay with the pups and feed them milk, after which they will also eat regurgitated meat brought back by other pack members. The returning to the den and greeting the pups is a frenzy of excitement and affection! Other adults may then be left on babysitting duty during the hunt. Although the pups are weaned at two months, they can stay in the den for up to four months. The pack may well move to a new den during this time, if they are in danger from predators or tormented by parasite infestation.

How to enter:
  1. Open a bottle of Painted Wolf wine, get those creative juices flowing and take an imaginative photo of you and your wine in your den.
  2. Post your photo on Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #denningdown2020. The deadline for entries is Sunday 12th April. Please also include your location hashtag i.e. #denningdown2020SouthAfrica or #denningdown2020UK or #denningdown2020Netherlands.
  3. The first round of judging will be done by our pack (the Painted Wolf team), and the shortlisted photos will be posted on social media where the winner will be chosen by a public vote.
  4. T’s and C’s apply*.
  5. Our pack members have accepted the challenge to get things going and you can see the results below! Good luck and stay safe.

The wine prize of 6 bottles of Painted Wolf wine can only be received in South Africa, UK and the Netherlands due to logistics, however, if you are not in those countries, you are still encouraged to participate!
