Neethlingshof Wine Estate
February is definitely one of the busiest months on the farm, with our 2020 harvest in full swing, the "For the Love of Wine" February pairing at the Wine Tasting Centre, live music every Wednesday and Friday evening and beautiful weddings every Saturday.

The next few weeks are going to be very busy, not only on the farm, but also with events like the Woordfees and the Pinotage Concert hosted on our lawns, so make sure you check our upcoming events below for more information

New chocolate pairing at the WTC
We are excited to introduce our new Chocolate & Wine Tasting specially selected by our winemaker, De Wet Viljoen. The pairing is R70pp and consists of the following:

Fresh apricot caramel and lemon verbena sugar encased in a delicate white chocolate shell paired with 2019 Gewürztraminer.
Dark chocolate twist layered with a mild chili ganache and fragrant fresh plum jelly paired with 2017 Malbec.
Gianduja filled dark chocolate log made with almonds and flakes of sea salt paired with The Caracal 2017.

February vineyard & cellar news
Harvest time is the time of the year that we have been planning for and looking forward to all year long. We started harvesting during the last week of January with Sauvignon blanc and the fruit did not disappoint. The cellar was filled with the aroma of green figs and grass as soon as the first load of grapes were crushed and the Sauvignon blanc juice was lovely and fresh. Since then we have taken in almost all of our Sauvignon blanc with only our Single Vineyard Jackals Dance still on the vines and slowly ripening to be picked at just the right time. The Sauvignon juice was transferred to fermentation tanks and is now fermenting, slowly converting the sugar in the juice to alcohol. We control the temperature of this process very carefully in order to preserve the lovely flavour and aroma of the juice.

We have also taken in some Weisser Riesling and a little bit of Pinotage which is destined for our Estate range. The Owl Post Pinotage block is still ripening and will only be picked when the time is right. We are constantly tasting, sampling and analyzing our grapes to determine the optimum time to harvest each specific cultivar. All in all the initial indications are very positive and 2020 is certainly a vintage that should deliver.

February restaurant happenings
Seeing as it is harvest time, Chef Brendan has been acquiring some “mos” from our winemakers to bake special treats for restaurant and wine tasting guests. Our Cinna-mos Buns, Mos Pizza, Mosbolletjies and Mosbolletjie Rusks are a huge hit and will be available until early April.

Save the date …..Friday 3 April, for our harvest celebration dinner where we plan to celebrate “Under the Oaks” with live music and a harvest themed menu paired with samples from our 2020 harvest. Keep an eye on our social media platforms and website for more details.

Remember that every Friday during the summer months we have live music “Under the Oaks” between 18h00 and 21h00, so come and enjoy some relaxed dining, fine wines and great music to kickstart your weekend. (Booking advisable)

We look forward to welcoming you to The Restaurant at Neethlingshof soon. Book online, call us on 021 883 8966 or email us.
