More About the Crush Day

Each year we celebrate the grape harvest by inviting you to join us for a fun day at Darling Cellars. A full day celebration featuring a grape stomp competition, kids Easter egg hunt and live music and entertainment. Please remember to bring cash to buy fresh produce from the Darling area at the pop up stalls.

Kids and adults get the chance to go back in time to the days when wine grapes were stomped by foot. That’s right, you can roll up the pant legs, and jump right in. No shortage of laughs and smiles here.Expect to get dirty. The tubs of grapes are not very deep, but you will get splashed, so dress appropriately. You will want to wear loose-leg pants (or shorts) so you can roll up the legs. Or, by all means ruin your pants… up to you. Plan for purple toes for a while.

Start the day with a healthy breakfast of yogurt, mosbolletjies, fruit juice and tea or coffee. The tractors and wagons will be waiting to take you to pick your own grapes in the vineyard. Back at the cellar, the fun begins. There is a prize for the team who stomps the most juice. There will be a live band providing music during the festival. Children are encouraged to enjoy the festivities. There is a jumping castle for them to play on and activities such as Easter egg hunt and face painting will be provided.
