Team South Africa #teamnederburg was up against 26 countries in this year's World Championships held at the impressive Chateau de Chambord, coming 12th.

Congratulations are in order for the host country France, who were closely followed by The People's Republic of China and then Taiwan, going through the tough challenge of identifying wines from the world - entirely blind. This is the 7th year the competition has been arranged by French magazine La Revue du Vin de France

Coach Jean Vincent Ridon took the team on a tour through France visiting various wineries before the finals held on Sat 12 Oct at the Chateau de Chambord

This year's #TeamNederburg comprised the very experienced captain Anita Streicher-Nel, Anton Swarts (CWM), Heidi Kritzinger, Cyril Meidinger and reserve Chris Groenewald.

All of them had been to the finals before - and Anton's comment was ''It was $&$@# hard and intense'', showing just how tough it was!

Just like music connects people, wine does the same thing. Says Jean Vincent: ''It was an emotional moment when Russian and Ukrainian teams celebrated together. Today is it PR of China Team and Taiwan Team sharing the happiness of being on the podium together. Wine is a culture, not a drink!''
