Alto Estate
South Africa, Stellenbosch, October 2018; Award - winning red wine specialist Alto Estate will present a rare pre-release tasting of its 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon as part of the Cabernet Vintage Preview on the 19 and 20 October in Stellenbosch.

Festival-goers will also get the opportunity to experience some of its older vintages under the tutelage of Alto winemaker Bertho van der Westhuizen. Alto will be one of some 28 wineries participating in the show, presented by the Stellenbosch Cabernet Collective at the Lanzerac Hotel and Spa. It includes two tutored events and a walk-around tasting of the region's 2017 vintage Cabernet Sauvignons, a variety that has shown itself eminently suited to Stellenbosch terroir.

Several dinners and events over the same weekend will be hosted by restaurants and associated venues, all of which can be booked directly with the various venues. An international masterclass will see international participation featuring iconic wines including the 2014 Opus One and 2015 Chateau Pichon Lalande. Just as exceptional will be the Stellenbosch Heritage Tasting, where local Cabernet Sauvignons through the ages will be the focus.

Bertho has selected wines from 2000 and 2015 for this event, which takes place on Friday 15h00-16h00 and Saturday 12h00-13h30. The ticket includes access to the walk-around tasting.

Alto has a long history of consistent excellence, especially when it comes to Cabernet Sauvignon. Recent accolades include Gold at Veritas for Alto Signature Red Blend 2015, which is Cabernet Sauvignon-led. Alto Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded Gold at the most recent Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards while award-winning British journalist and Master of Wine Tim Atkin rated the Alto Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 with 93 points and Alto Signature Red Blend 2015 with 94. In July at the 2018 Novare SA Terroir Wine Awards, the title of Best Cabernet Sauvignon overall was awarded to Alto for its 2014 vintage.

Cabernet Sauvignon is also present in the Rouge and MPHS blends, which are equally highly-rated.
