Launched last year to applaud exceptional ‘Pink Pinotage’ including Rosé, Blanc de Noir and Blush wines, the competition emphasises the versatility of the most successful of South Africa’s grapes in building on the success of the wonderful single-varietal Pinotages and Pinotage-led Cape Blends for which the country is famous.
The initiative of the Pinotage Association, sponsored by Absa, has been well received by the South African wine industry, with producers considering the prospect of winning the competition both exciting and inspiring. In 2017, entries were received from a wide array of regions and districts of the Cape winelands, and it’s anticipated that there will be greater participation this year in the establishment of a special niche in a category that has found favour with a broad cross-section of the wine-loving public.
Due to rising interest in the Pinotage Rosé Competition, the deadline for entries has been rescheduled from 20 July to 27 July.
