Badsberg bottles their General

Badsberg Wine Cellar, situated outside Rawsonville in the Breedekloof Wine District in the Western Cape, won the General Smuts Trophy during 2016's South African Young Wine Show for their 2016 Badsberg Pinotage. After 6 months of aging in French oak barrels, the wine is now available.

What makes this award so special?

The South African National Wine Show Association annually hosts the SA Young Wine Show, dating back to 1833, to award the top wines of the current vintage. The General Smuts Trophy is awarded to the best young wine, chosen from 1868 entries from wineries across South Africa.

The Wine

The 2016 Badsberg Pinotage is a 100% dark red pinotage with pink-purple tinge and robust red berry and plum flavours. The ripe plum and berry aromas are integrated with tannins to create the perfect balance for a lasting aftertaste.

Only a limited volume of 1716 units were bottled and it is only available at cellar door or online at at R320 per bottle.

The Cellar

Badsberg Wine Cellar is situated at the foot of the Badsberg Mountain in the picturesque Breedekloof wine valley, a mere 80km from Cape Town and 20km from Worcester, 7km from Rawsonville and neighbour to the well-known Goudini Spa holiday resort.
