The Indaba Education Fund (IEF) is offering bursaries to students requiring financial support to complete South Africa’s first ever Association Montessori Internationale Assistants to Infancy 0-3 Years Diploma. The 18 week course runs across 3 modules starting on 7 August 2017 and will be hosted at the Indaba Montessori Institute based at the Sustainability Institute outside Stellenbosch.

The course tuition fee is R45 000. Students who are looking for financial support and are committed to pursuing a career in Montessori education in South Africa, notably in Winelands communities, are welcome to apply for an IEF bursary. Interviews and observations in the Infant Community (0-3 environment) will take place with each potential student at the Sustainability Institute. This is an opportunity for candidates to share their passion and enthusiasm for working within the early childhood development phase. The IMI and IEF are looking to create strong, long term relationships with the bursary students.

“We are looking for candidates who will guide us as to their needs. Whether that be for financial support in covering tuition, accommodation and catering fees in order that they can fully focus on each course module, or continued mentorship after the course,” says Emma Snowball, Indaba Montessori Institute project manager. “We are looking forward to working with each student to help them achieve their goals.”

The IEF is a fully accredited 501(c)(3) nonprofit organisation established by New York based wine importer Cape Classics, which endeavors to dramatically improve educational opportunities for children living in the South African Winelands who would not otherwise have had access to early childhood education. The fund is supported by a portion of all global sales of Cape Classics’ own Indaba Wines brand, as well as through fundraising and private donations.

“The only way to truly change global society is by ensuring the youngest members of our society are beautifully educated and well cared for,” said Andre Shearer, Founder and Chairman of the Indaba Education Fund. “By offering bursaries to early childhood teachers, we aim to provide young South African children with access to a world-class standard of education, giving them a stronger foundation of learning that sets them up for future success.”

The Assistants to Infancy 0-3 Years Diploma course outline includes Montessori theory, anatomy and physiology, obstetrics, nutrition and hygiene, as well as child neuropsychiatry, psych-sensory theory and demonstrations, home environment theory and demonstrations and communities theory and demonstrations.

The course dates are Module 1: 7 August 2017 to 5 September 2017, Module 2: 8 January 2018 to 23 February 2018 and Module 3: 8 June 2018 to 20 July 2018.
