Stellenbosch Fire still burns

Firefighters are battling strong blazes in the Stellenbosch area with many vineyards under threat. The fire began on Tuesday soon after a large fire in Elgin had been contained. Due to strong winds, the fire has moved swiftly and mercilessly.
Damage reported:
 
- Parts of Delheim Forest has burnt but their vineyards remain in tact.
- Zorgvliet has lost some vineyards
- Thelema has experienced some damage
- Evacuations were made at Rustenberg Estate
 
On-going tweets have kept many informed about the Fire's destruction and movement
 
Around 120 ground crew memebrs are currently fighting flare-ups. Burnt slopes behind Tokara Wine

Relieved to share that Uitkyk sustained only minor vineyard damage from the tragic Thanks to all fighting the fire

: Damage to 6 or 7 hectares, a lot of natural and alien vegetation destroyed, but no major crisis.

 

As of 22nd February 4pm - the fire is still burning on Knorhoek, Muratie and Delheim but more than 80 per cent of the fire has been contained.
