Explore the winter wonders of the Babylonstoren Garden
In the Babylonstoren vegetable garden, it’s time for hardy plants like kale, leeks and celeriac to thrive. If you’re a keen gardener wondering what to plant in the cooler months, opt for leafy greens and brassicas like cabbage, broccoli and romanesco. You can also join one of their garden walks this winter to learn how their gardeners make the most of the slower season.
Further afield on the farm, the Nules clementines and Faan Retief guavas are slowly coming into the season, offering a healthy dose of vitamin C before the big cold hits.
The Babylonstoren Healing Garden is flourishing this time of year. Their medicinal garden includes a range of beautiful species. The central layout of the garden follows the form of the human body with herbs that are said to heal the head, heart, lungs, digestive system, organs, skin, bones, and feet. Herbs along the outer wall follow the seasons, summer to winter, and have been specially selected to heal, soothe and balance the body through the time-honoured pleasure of tea.
