PYDA facilitator Nomonde Kubheka was shortlisted for the prestigious Future 50 award from more than 600 international nominations.

Nomonde Kubheka, facilitator at Pinotage Youth Development Academy (PYDA), was shortlisted for the prestigious Future 50 award from more than 600 international nominations. The award, launched by the Wine and Spirit Education Trust and the International Wine and Spirit Competition, was created to offer a unique platform for showcasing global change makers in the wine industry.

Showcasing global talent

Nomonde, who started her career in the wine industry as winemaker at KWV, has been involved at PYDA for the past six years. She has made a significant contribution to the success of students in WSET Level 2, recently sponsored by the International Wine Challenge. The qualification enables students to obtain international certification, directly influencing and improving their chances of finding meaningful careers both at home and abroad.

Role model for young students

WSET International Educator of the Year, Cathy Marston DipWSET reflects on Nomonde’s nomination: “Without her attention to detail, her patience during revision sessions, her enthusiasm for the subject, there is no doubt in my mind that we wouldn’t get the amazing results we have been achieving. I think she is an amazing role model for these young people, exemplifying how far you can go when you work hard and believe in yourself. I have the highest respect for her and the work she does in changing the lives of so many young South Africans for the better and cannot think of a more deserving candidate to receive this award.”

Building bridges

Nomonde has a longstanding relationship with PYDA dating back to the first recruitment camp. Having touched hundreds of lives of graduates, she plays a fundamental role in building bridges in her capacity as tutor, facilitator, role model and ambassador. It is quite clear that she is held in high regard by her peers, students and industry partners. Nikki Munro, Executive Director of PYDA, describes her as “an absolute Rockstar and valued partner.”
