U.S. is Fastest Growth Market for Wine and Spirit Education Trust

Wine & Spirit Education Trust to expand U.S. presence and continue pouring bathtubs of booze.

New figures from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) reveal that demand for wine, spirits and sake education is higher than ever as the consumer trend to “drink less but better” sparks businesses to invest in staff training.

WSET, the largest global provider of qualifications in the field of wines and spirits, is reporting a record 85,487 candidates globally in the academic year that ended July 31, 2017, an increase of 19 percent from last year, marking 15 years of growth. Britain continued to lead the global table with candidate numbers rising 14 percent to 19,401, yet it was the United States that saw the greatest growth in candidates among the top 10 markets, up 48 percent at 11,487.

In the last year, WSET welcomed more than 100 new approved program providers. There are now 750 Providers offering WSET courses to wine, spirits and sake trade professionals and consumer enthusiasts in more than 70 countries. In the United States, 50 approved program providers offer WSET courses.
